Diversity within the Body of Christ is not new. Christians have always been diverse, from the time of the disciples through today there have been differing views expressed by the faithful. Paul describes the Body as many parts, but one Body. For the body to function as intended, it relies on all the parts working together. This is why Jesus prays that “all may be one” so that we might experience the fullness of life as God intended. The Ecumenical Movement is about bringing the body of Christ together in a more complete witness to the Love of God. The Virginia Council of Churches has been the voice of ecumenism within the Commonwealth. While we are the oldest and largest expression of Ecumenism we still seek the fullness of unity. It may seem at times that our churches are more about division then unity. Actually great strides have been made during the 20th century, bringing us closer and closer together. One thing is clear, the Spirit is moving amongst us. In the same way the Spirit moved 62 years ago gathering up the followers of Jesus Christ and calling them together, because the Commonwealth needed their shared witness. We needed it then and we need it today. Covenant Members Please Login or Continue.
